Abstract A key obstacle to high accuracy mobile location is the None Line of Sight (NLOS) transmission of signal. This paper presents a new radio location algorithm-believable factor algorithm (BFA), based on the time of arrival (TOA) range measurements, using the geometric relationship between the base station and measurements, the path loss model and received signal strength. Different distributed NLOS error is utilized to research the performance of this approach. Results show that the BFA algorithm can efficiently reduce the influence of the NLOS error, and is robust to different distributed NLOS error. The location accuracy has been improved greatly compared with other algorithms.
