Abstract Wireless channel environment is influenced by Gauss noise and impulsive noise. A new algorithm is proposed based on Characteristic Function (CF) phase of received signal by analyzing the feature of SαS impulsive noise. The classification vectors are composed of CF phase corresponding to different angle. The method of minimum mean squared distance is used to classify unknown modulation type. Theoretical analysis proves this algorithm is invariant to the presence of SαS noise. Simulations show average successful rates are both more than 90% in impulsive noise and Gauss noise channel when SNR is above 8dB.
