Abstract The importance of traffic prediction in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) should not be disregarded. Concerning the ARMA model，a traffic prediction algorithm is proposed based on its own traffic characters. Simulation results show that the presented algorithm can provide high accuracy. Furthermore, using the proposed algorithm to improve the multi-paths route scheme can extend the lifetime of the whole WSN by remaining load evenly distributed among several paths.
