Abstract The wide swath synthetic aperture radar (SAR) method basing on elevation multi-receiver is proved to be a high precise and feasible wide swath SAR method by theory and simulation. The SNR of this method has been analyzed by the matrix condition, and the analysis leads to only a qualitative conclusion in previous study. In this paper, the explicit formula is deduced for the SNR of this method, then the limit of the SNR is given and the optimal SNR design rule is presented. Finally, some system schemes according to the optimal SNR rule is given at last and those SNR curve is calculated to validate the rule.
