Abstract A new concept of time-frequency rate distribution is proposed. It can serve as an effective tool for superimposed LFM signal parameter estimation. A new method based on the time-frequency rate distribution is also proposed. Performance analysis shows the new method is an asymptotically optimal method. Simulation results show the new method possesses excellent properties, and is suitable for low SNR environment.
