Abstract This paper firstly introduces a new architecture of adding the relay function to cellular systems in the dead spots, and describes the system’s analytical model under this environment. Then based on this model, the call outage probability of this cellular system with relaying can be derived with mathematical analyzing. Finally, through numerical calculation and performance comparison, the cellular system with relaying can be provided to attain more lower call outage probability than that of the traditional cellular system without relaying under the environment of dead spots, and the impact of the velocity, average call duration and radius of the mobile station on the performances of these two different cellular systems is also analyzed.
