Abstract The concept of broad-sense spotlight is put forward and the simplified space geometry model of spaceborne broad-sense spotlight SAR is built in this paper. On the base of the simplified model, the control method of antenna beam direction angle is studied. The theory for computing the real-time beam direction angle is deduced. Finally, some experimental results are presented by a group of system parameters and the theory formula is validated.
