Abstract Synthetic Aperture Radar ALtimeter (SARAL) is a new generation radar altimeter and has the best height precision now. As using synthetic aperture technique, the height precision of SARAL is improved by one fold. Based on studying the height precision of Conventional Radar Altimeter (CRA) and SARAL, a novel comparison method is developed to process the airborne flight experiment data. And the precision comparison result shows that the height precision of SARAL is increased by one fold.
