Abstract Modern high-resolution radar obtains high resolution in down-range dimension from wideband waveform and high resolution in cross-range dimension from large aperture. In this paper, a beam is formed using Frequency Diversity (FD) coherent processing between two array elements, according to the principle of Single Input Multiple Output (SIMO) linear array antennas beam forming. Then two-dimension image of targets is achieved by using the High Resolution Range Profiles (HRRP). Further to reduce the bandwidth of the FD coherent processing utilizing sparse array, and large aperture is resolved through array design. Finally, simulation verifies the effectiveness of the proposed method.
