Abstract A novel Opportunistic-Network-Coding based Weighted broadcasting Retransmission (WONCR) approach is proposed to deal with the problem of data dissemination scheme based on opportunistic network coding in wireless broadcasting networks, which are under the conditions of high packet loss probability and different state of links. This approach implements a new scheduling algorithm based on the Weighted Packet Distribution Matrix (WPDM) to realize the selection of coded packets before XOR coding and retransmitting. The analysis and simulations show that the transmission efficiency is improved significantly and the computational complexity is low. Hence, the high-efficiency and reliable data dissemination are achieved in wireless broadcasting networks.
