Abstract A dual band-notched UltraWide Band (UWB) antenna is presented to avoid the interference of service that work in the UWB band such as WiMax and WLAN applications. The dual band-notched characteristics are achieved by employing an arc H-shaped slot on the radiating patch and etching a couple of L-shaped slots on the ground plane. The proposed antenna operates on the ultra wide band (3.1~10.6 GHz) efficiently, except for the bandwidth of 3.3~3.6 GHz for WiMax application and 5.1~5.9 GHz for WLAN application. The parametric study of the arc H-shaped slot shows that this structure enables centre frequency of notched band to be conveniently tuned. Simulated and measured results show that the proposed antenna provides excellent band-notched function on the rejectband and has nearly omnidirectional radiation patterns on the passband.
