Abstract This paper describes an ultrafine MultiFunctional Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) SAR (MFUSAR) developed at the Institute of Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. MFUSAR can operate in Ku and X band and be capable of high resolution, interferometry and full polarimetry. The function and architecture of MFUSAR are described in detail. An effective motion compensation, wideband signal generation and IF receiver, multi-channel balance are proposed for MFUSAR. High quality images formed in the UAV flight tests demonstrate clearly the feasibility of UAV borne multifunctional SAR system.
