Abstract The Generalized Gamma Distribution is one of the most important distributions for modeling of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images, of which the main limiting factor for application is the parameters estimation. In this paper, a new parameters estimation foris proposed. At first, the weakness of Method-of-Log-Cumulants (MoLC) for is analyzed. Moreover, the estimation expression for based on Scale-Independent-Shape-Estimation (SISE) equation is derived, and the concrete solving method is presented too. Finally, the Monte Carlo simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method is more stable and effective than MoLC.
