Abstract The stimulated Raman scattering of incident pump wave caused by a magnetized intense relativistic electron beam is analyzed theoretically. The results show that the magnetized beam can increase the gain of the free electron laser if the electron cyclotron frequency Q// in the axial static magnetic field is equal to the frequency ωi of the incident pump wave in the electron beam frame of reference. In this case the growth rate is ωi/ωi- Q// times of that for the unmagnetized beam.
