A Fast Encoding Algorithm Based on Residual Coefficients |

Abstract The current video coding standards have higher coding efficiency, but also increase the coding complexity. Thus improving the encoding speed is very important. According to the distribution of the residual coefficients, a fast encoding algorithm is proposed. The algorithm first uses residual coefficients which are obtained from the Inter16×16 or Inter8×8 for the hypothesis testing. Then the results of the hypothesis testing are used to predict the possible coding mode. And the criteria for all-zero blocks, 1 × 1 sub-blocks, 2 × 2 sub-blocks and 3 ×3 sub-blocks are calculated based on the distribution of the DCT coefficients, thus avoiding all or some of the operation on the coefficients of DCT, Q, IQ, IDCT in the 4 × 4 sub-blocks. The experimental results show that the encoding speed of the proposed algorithm is significantly faster than other algorithms with negligible coding loss.
