Abstract Hybrid Automatic Retransmission reQuest (HARQ) is an error control method for reliable communications. Combining HARQ with Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems using spatial multiplexing can provide reliable high data rate transmission. In this paper, a sequential power allocation method is proposed in MIMO-HARQ systems. Based on channel state information, the receiver searches the optimal power allocation vector and sends its index back to transmitter, with which the transmitter sequentially allocates powers for next retransmission. The proposed method needs less feedback information and can tolerate large feedback delay. Simulation results show that it can significantly improve the BER performance in spatial correlated MIMO channels.
