Abstract To calibrate the channel errors with gain and phase uncertainty for bistatic HF surface wave Synthesis Impulse and Aperture Radar (SIAR), a self-calibration approach for evaluating the gain-phase errors is presented in this paper. The impact of channel errors on spatial-temporal super-resolution is firstly analyzed. Using the direct wave of high Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), the method conducts the estimation of the gain-phase matrix prior to that of range and angle, instead of the conventional joint-estimation. So the method has a small amount of computation and is easy to be implemented. Some influential factors are discussed as well in the paper. The numerical simulations show the validity of the proposed method.
