Abstract In this paper, a novel and simple simulation model for the generation of Rayleigh waveforms with various autocorrelation properties is proposed. Based on this model, the method for generating the Rayleigh fading waveforms in wireless channels is given. By using the model, an arbitrary number of independent Rayleigh fading waveforms can be easily generated, which is of great importance for realistic performance assessments of the frequency-diversity wireless communication systems. Simulation results show that the model can effectively generate the Rayleigh waveforms with small-scale channel characteristics, which satisfy the autocorrelation property and stationary requirement.
