Abstract Theoretical model of a double cusp gun is analyzed; model of magnetic cusp is built up. By using of EGUN and MAGIC, a double cusp gun producing large orbit gyration electron beam is designed, with beam velocity ratio of 1.38 and axial velocity spread 3.7%. The distribution of electron beam velocity ratio and axial velocity spread on axis is analyzed, then the variety magnetic cusp transition length affects on beam parameters is discussed, which provides some reference for double magnetic cusp gun design.
