Abstract In view of intermittent chaotic signal identification problem for chaotic oscillator weak signal detection, noise disturbing effect on Poincaré section is analyzed, a new identification method based on a Poincaré map is proposed and numerical simulation is done in order to validate this method. The result shows that this method archives effective identification to intermittent chaotic signal frequency, even when the output wave of phase component is hard to identify. The short-time periodic chaotic self-oscillation is restrained, a swift and validate weak signal detection under strong noise background is realized.
