Study on the linear theory of beam-wave interactions of pasotron

Abstract The physical mechanism of PASOTRON (Plasma Assisted Slow-wave Oscillator) is studied. Taking into account the ion channel and making use of the linear field theory, the dispersion equation of corrugated waveguide filled with plasma is derived without a guiding magnetic field. It is analyzed by numerical computation that the temporal growth rates and the frequency of PASOTRON are affected by the filling factor of plasma.
