Abstract The characteristics of ship wakes in SAR image is analysed, the model of speckle noise and its local statistic characteristics are also analyzed. A ship wake detection algorithm is proposed in this paper, which based on wavelet transform to suppress the speckle noise firstly and Radon transform to detect the ship wakes secondly. The results of data procession show that the proposed method is more efficient and more accurate to detect the ship wakes in SAR images than that of applying Radon transform to SAR images directly.
