Abstract This paper reviews several typical techniques of multi-modal image registra-tion, exposures the relationship among them, and offers a full analysis and comparison using numerical examples. The techniques analyzed in this paper include the ones using those reg-istration measures such as entropy based, PIU (Partition Intensity Uniformity) classes, and correlation coefficient based. The modified PIU criteria are also included. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and accommodation of the techniques, and provide a valid reference in the choice of registration techniques.
