Abstract：Protection switching is a key technique in Resilient Packet Ring(RPR). Although current protection switching scheme defined in 1EEE802.17 draft can provide sub-50ms protection switching time, it can not ensure QoS of real time service. To solve this problem, two new protection switching schemes are presented in this paper. These two schemes are respectively suitable for the two structures of RPR MAC: single-queue MAC and dual-queue MAC. The performances of these two schemes are also analyzed in this paper. Simulation results show that these schemes can ensure QoS of real-time service when protection switching occurs.
